Giving Tuesday May 5th

We’re thankful for the generosity shown to so many non-profits recently, but we could really use your ongoing support as we help neighbors grow healthy food and relationships. Whether it’s $10 or $110, on-time or monthly, any amount you can share is appreciated. We would love for you to “Adopt A Row, Farmer or Farmyard” through a monthly donation of $25, $50, or $100! You can donate here or through the link below. Here are some specific ways you can help:

  • $25 can buy a flat of plant starts
  • $50 can provide a new raised bed
  • $250 covers a load of soil or compost
  • $2,500 would help us hire a summer intern

Is Back to Normal The Best Future?

Have you noticed any surprisingly good side effects of the COVID-19 pandemic such as neighbors safely helping each other in the garden? We’d love to hear your thoughts! Here are

some things we hope will continue even when the order is lifted:

* Relying less on fossil fuels – driving less!
* Relying more on local resources – growing local food!
* Generosity toward strangers – turning strangers into neighbors!
* Caring more for local neighbors – functioning more like family!
* Joy in living more simply – treating the planet more like home!

We love carrots, how ’bout you?!

Do you have any carrots in the ground? Can we help you with that? We’d love to equip you to grow and share these and other awesome root vegetables with your neighbors. Check out our carrot tutorial video and let us know what you think. We’d also love to hear your tips and tricks regarding things you love to grow at this time of year!

Happy Earth Day!

We are super excited about our potatoes, but even more excited about Earth Day! We hope you find a good way to care for and celebrate our shared home, the earth! Is there a neighbor you could reach out to today? How about a new way you can safely share your tools or time to minimize the use of resources in your neighborhood? We encourage you to spend time outside so you can talk to neighbors from a safe distance and check in on them. You might even consider starting to function like more of a “Block Leader.” Click here for more info on that (can be done in any neighborhood not just West Central) and check out these links for more ways to celebrate and get involved in Earth Day!

Planting Potatoes

If you haven’t already, today is a great day to put potatoes in the ground! A couple of weeks ago we demonstrated planting snap peas and this pandemic isn’t stopping our safe veggie plantings. We aren’t encouraging groups to gather in the garden, but we do want to equip you with the skills and resources you need to keep growing and safely sharing healthy food and relationships with your neighbors!

What are you growing? Do you want suggestions or tips? Would you like to share some tips? Here is a link to our “planting tutorial” video focused on potatoes. Let us know what you think or what other plants and gardening techniques you’d like to learn about.

Veggie Starts READY to Share!

In large part due to Karen, Mark and our friend Lynn, we have parsley, kohlrabi, Brussels sprouts, and lettuce ready to share and put in the ground ASAP. Would you like some? Swing by our little greenhouse at 2506 W. Rowan to grab a couple and/or shoot us a message to coordinate a pick up or delivery! We also have tomatoes, peppers, basil, and more warm weather crops growing. You can take some home to care for indoors, or pick those up at the end of May. We love sharing starts so that you can share healthy food with your neighbors!

Planting Snap Peas

Have you seen our “planting tutorial” video focused on snap peas? What else are you growing right now? We aren’t encouraging communal gardening/urban farming right now, but it’s a great time grow your own food and safely sharing some with neighbors. We have been helping neighbors gain access to and share gardening resources such as seeds, pots, plant starts, compost, compost bins, soil, wood chips, tools, etc. Let us know what you or your neighbors need or what you have to share with others!

Thank you for your generosity!

Even at this strange and challenging time, giving to non-profits is up across the country. Thanks for your generosity in helping to meet the needs of our must vulnerable neighbors! We would appreciate your continued donations as we safely equip neighbors to grow and share healthy food and relationships. You can donate here by setting up a one time or recurring donation. A local partner that would love your support with feeding and caring for our community is The Westminster Food Bank (509-328-5002).
